Non-Executive Director and Chairman
Phil Wrigley is non-executive chairman of Majestic Wine Plc and a non-executive director of Carluccios and has recently been appointed non-executive chairman of Hobbs. He stepped down as executive chairman of Habitat in June 2011 after negotiating its successful sale. In September 2009 he founded Madison Capital LLP to invest in and support emerging companies with significant opportunities to grow and create value. He stepped down as chairman of the New Look Group in January 2010, having transformed it from a “small cap public company” into private ownership and to be the third largest womenswear retailer in the UK with rapid global growth. Phil has led change programmes in a number of retail businesses embracing all aspects of retail. He has led merger and acquisition activities in the UK and overseas whilst maintaining a particular focus on building strong and successful management teams. In his retail career he has worked as a director in the New Look Group, Bhs, Dorothy Perkins and Debenhams and held responsibility for all the primary roles in retail from buying and merchandising, logistics, retail operations and marketing to finance. Phil is also a member of the Policy Exchange Education Committee, an honorary fellow of Harris Manchester College, Oxford and participates in a number of retail/property advisory boards.
Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee
Danny Kitchen was appointed chairman of Hibernia REIT Plc in December 2013, is chairman of Workspace Group PLC in July 2011 and has extensive experience in both property and finance, having served as finance director of Green Property Plc from 1994 to 2002 and deputy chief executive officer of Heron International from 2003 to 2008. Whilst at Green Property, Danny was involved in two rights issues, a successful hostile bid for a UK listed company, and saw the net assets of the company grow from €100m to €2bn. Other roles have included over ten years as a non-executive director of Kingspan Group Plc and an appointment as a non-executive director of Minerva Plc in May 2010 until its takeover in June 2011. He is also a member of the Irish Takeover Panel. Danny is resident in Ireland.
Non Executive Director
Steve Webb was until 2012 investor relations director at Tesco PLC. He is now an investor relations consultant, advising businesses in the retail sector. Steve joined Tesco PLC in 2004 and was promoted to its Retail Council in 2007. He spent 15 years at Safeway Plc in a variety of strategy and planning roles, latterly as a member of its Executive Board. Steve's early career was in retail analysis at Verdict Research, where he was a partner and major shareholder, and at Lehman Brothers where he was an equity analyst on food and general retail.
Alastair Irvine is the former joint managing director of the A McLelland & Son Group which he joined in 1989. His responsibilities included group strategy and commercial development, including the launch and brand building of “Seriously Strong” cheddar into the UK's second largest cheese brand. Alastair and his family sold McLelland in 2004 to the French multinational Lactalis. Turnover prior to sale was in the region of £160m. Since 2006, Alastair has had an active involvement in property investment with a particular focus on retail assets both in the UK and in Europe. More recently, he has launched a solar energy investment business in Portugal where he lives.
George Baird graduated with a law degree, after which he began his career training as an accountant, and past roles have included Treasurer of the States of Jersey and finance and operations director of Mourant Group. George's current directorships include the non-executive chairmanship of Geiger Counter Limited. George is also a non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee for Thread Green Industrial Limited and until recently held the same roles at Economic Lifestyle Property Investment Co Limited. He is also chairman of the audit committee of Yatra Capital Limited. George is resident in Jersey.
